Arbechina

One of the most important olive varieties in Catalonia (Spain), it originates from the Lleida region but is now widespread worldwide. It is resistant to both summer drought and winter cold. Self-fertile. Probably one of the most adaptable varieties to different environments, due to its moderate vigour combined with a remarkable propensity to bear fruit. Early ripening. Moderate resistance to detachment. Optimal workability in the mill with early harvesting so as not to compromise the quality of the oil. In Catalonia, it is also used as a table olive. Definitely suitable for high and very high density plantations, not recommended for traditional plantations.

Phytosanitary aspects: tolerant to cycloconium (Spilocea oleagina), tolerant to scab (Pseudomonas sevastanoi), sensitive to verticillium wilt (Verticillium dhaliae), moderately susceptible to olive fly (Bactrocea oleae).

Recommended planting density:

non-irrigated areas: 8x8m

medium density: 6x3m

high density (with irrigation): 4x2m
