Canino

One of Italy's most important varieties, originating in northern Lazio (Viterbo). Resistant to both summer drought and winter cold. Self-incompatible, often associated with Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo or Pendolino to enable fruit set. Medium vigour. Late ripening. High resistance to detachment. Good workability in the mill. Suitable for traditional plantings, not suitable for very high density plantings (over 1,000 trees/ha).

Phytosanitary aspects: susceptible to cycloconium (Spilocea oleagina), tolerant to scab (Pseudomonas sevastanoi), moderately susceptible to fly (Bactrocea oleae).

Recommended planting density:

non-irrigated areas: 8x8m

medium density: 6x3m

high density (with irrigation): 4x2m
