Moraiolo

An Italian variety that is widespread in the central regions in hilly areas. Tolerates cold well. Self-incompatible, commonly associated with Frantoio, Leccino, Maurinio and Pendolino. Moderate vigour and markedly upright growth habit. Average ripening time. Very high resistance to detachment. Good workability in the mill. Suitable for traditional plantations, absolutely unsuitable for high-density plantations (over 1,000 trees/ha). Reacts poorly to heavy pruning.

Phytosanitary aspects: Susceptible to cycloconium (Spilocea oleagina), susceptible to scab (Pseudomonas sevastanoi), susceptible to fly (Bactrocea oleae).

Recommended planting density:

non-irrigated areas: 8x8m

medium density: 6x3m

high density (with irrigation): 4x2m
